The Stylish BAKER Plans To Create Catchiest Pop Album Ever!

BAKER is in all caps for a reason. The up-and-coming male pop artist is readying a debut release that is sure to rival what is blasting on the radio airwaves at the moment. The stylish, New York native is working hard to be the answer to the question of who will be the most powerful male pop star of the 21st century.

Following the release of an EP and his debut single, “Echo,” the singer made a few appearances at this year’s SXSW Music, Film and Interactive festival in Austin, Texas and is promising to make “the catchiest, most danceable pop album ever.”

Whether it’s covering iconic tracks such as Britney Spears’ “Hold It Against Me,” Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box,” or creating his own songs like “Convince Me,” BAKER has the talent and drive to become a dominant force in the stale genre, giving it a much needed male perspective. “It’s time for a change and I would like the chance to tell my story,” BAKER says. “Songs about love, breakups or even just going out and having a good time are definitely for everyone so I know I don’t quite fit in but I hope more and more people can relate to my music.”

Before the artist has a chance to open his mouth, people may first fall in love with BAKER’s very fashionable sense of style–a quality seen in all his videos and promo pictures. “My grandparents, my mother and my sister all work in the fashion industry, so from a young age I learned a lot of basics on how to put myself together,” he says.

While good taste in clothing may be half his appeal, it’s his voice that draws in the audience. He began playing cello at the age of 5, studied music, and has always sang. Music came as a second language.

BAKER says he has many influences, but there is one artist who has the biggest impact on his music career. “I’m influenced mostly by David Bowie for the example he sets as a male solo artist,” BAKER says. “But there are so many acts today like Nero and Florence + The Machine that inspire my music as well.”

The artist even had the opportunity to visit the weird city of Austin this yearwhen he was given the chance to perform at the annual SXSW festival. BAKER played all three days at venues including Rusty’s and The Cedar Door. “Every show at SXSW was amazing. There was such a great response to both the old and new music. Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to see too much of Austin but I did visit an H-E-B which was awesome. We don’t have supermarkets like that in New York,” BAKER jokes.

The artist was in Austin supporting The BAKER EP, released in September, which features seven tracks including “All I’m Gonna Say” and “Desensitize.”

BAKER is now focusing his time and energy working on the always nerve-racking debut album which he says he is always writing new songs for. “The final track list for the album has not been set, but I cannot imagine leaving behind the songs on the EP. I’m really proud of them,” he says.

It is not uncommon for artists to feature music released prior to their debut album’s release, giving them a second chance at life, but which song on the EP is BAKER proud of most? “Probably ‘Heat of the Night,’” he says. “I know it’s not as big as ‘Echo’ or ‘All I’m Gonna Say,’ which are favorites as well, but writing it was special.”

Songs like “Echo” and “All I’m Gonna Say” already have official music videos which follow a simple concept. As for now, the artist says he’s focusing on getting the music out. Music videos will come second. “There are no more videos in the pipeline for now but some should be happening soon,” BAKER says. “Making videos is so fun, I can’t wait to do it again. ‘Echo’ and ‘All I’m Gonna Say’ were about letting people get to know me but the next video will be more than that.”

BAKER has been working on perfecting his music for quite some time now. He has planted roots in Los Angeles after meeting a producer in 2008–the summer before his senior year in college. He has encountered obstacles along the way, but advices starting artists to just keep with it. “Believe me I know this is a cliché, but just do what you do. You have to do it for yourself and set the bar really high. Being your own worst critic can be a good thing,” he says.
